Portfolio Development - Theme, Colour & Visual Consistency - 8th April plus 2 zoom sessions
Date:
7th April - 1.5 hour zoom session at 7pm - an introduction to project portfolios, themes, colour, visual consistency and post processing
8th April - Morning and afternoon photography sessions in Southwold and Sizewell.
15th April - 1.5 hour zoom session at 7pm to share our completed panels and discuss the results.
Time:
5.45am start for sunrise on 8th April. Finish at 4pm. There will be stops for coffee and lunch in local cafes.
Location:
Sizewell and Southwold. We will be working in 3 separate locations during the day: Sizewell beach, Southwold Beach and Southwold Harbour. Photography will be relaxed and there will be time to explore and develop different portfolio themes. We will stop for morning coffee and lunch in local cafes where we will have the opportunity to discuss our progress as a group.
Group size: 5
Aims of Workshop:
This workshop is aimed at photographers who would like to take their photography beyond the capture of stand alone images. We will be looking at the skills required to create a small portfolio of 6 - 9 images which can either be displayed as a decorative panel or as a collection of images for a portfolio or small body of work.
During the workshop, which will consist of two zoom sessions (one before and one after the main photography day), we will focus on:
How to identify and make images for a particular theme.
Choosing an aspect ratio
Working with viewpoints, focal length, depth of field to create varied images
Working with relationships between elements to create context and visual flow
Working with colour, theme and visual flow to create colour pairs
Working with colour to create a harmonious theme both in camera and in post processing.
Using Post Processing to create visual consistency throughout a panel of images.
Description:
Join me for a multi day workshop which will consist of two online zoom sessions and a full day of photography on the Suffolk Coast. The workshop will begin with an introductory zoom session on 7th April where I will talk about panels and portfolios and my approach to creating visual consistency within a body of work.
On 8th April we will meet for a sunrise at Sizewell where we will be working to create themed images. Techniques will include long exposure, minimalism and working with shapes and colour.
From Sizewell we will head along the coast to Southwold where we will spend the rest of the day on the beach and around the harbour. We will be looking at creating colour pairs and working to introduce a colour theme to a body of work. You will be encouraged to see the landscape in a different way and work at pre visualising your panel rather than representing exactly what is in front of your eyes.
The workshop will finish on 15th April with another zoom session where we will share and discuss our finished panels.
At the end of the sessions you should be able to present a collection of 6 - 9 images which will make up your panel or portfolio.
