Join me for 5 nights and 4 full days of photography on the coast of Northern England and southern Scotland. We will be working in Northumberland and the Scottish boarders to capture the rugged beauty of this part of the UK coastline.
What’s Included:
5 nights self catering in Bamburgh, Northumberland. We will be staying in a beautiful 19th-century stone-built property overlooking Bamburgh Castle, with sea views to Holy Island.
The accommodation sleeps 10 in 4 ensuite bedrooms with king or twin beds, plus a twin with its own family bathroom. All rooms have an allocated shower or bathroom and there are no shared rooms or facilities. The house is in a stunning location perfect for beach sunrises and sunsets and is very well appointed with a spacious lounge/kitchen/diner plus additional lounges with castle views. Linen and towels are provided.
Breakfast is included – this will be a mixture of cereal, toast and cooked breakfast on a self catering basis.
Some packed lunches on the days where cafes are not available.
Evening meals will be a mixture of home cooked food in the house on the night of arrival followed by pub meals after a sunset shoot. All home cooked food is included in the price, pub meals are additional.
4 full days of photography tuition, image review and printing. All participants will go home with a print of their favourite image printed on fine art paper.
Loan of filter kits if required
Transport between locations.

Description:
A fantastic opportunity to explore the rugged coast of Northumberland and the Scottish borders; a wild coastline full of history and natural beauty. We will be visiting the following locations:
Bamburgh - for its castle, beach, dunes and small lighthouse.
Lindisfarne - Holy island, accessed via a causeway and cut off a high tide. This location is full of character and is a great place for wider views as well as smaller scenes. We will be working here to produce both with the challenge of creating a panel of images depicting the spirit of the location.
Dunstanburgh Castle - an atmospheric location which we will photograph from two different beaches.
A variety of beaches known for their rock formations and mix of sand and boulders. Visits will include Embleton Bay and Spittle beach.
Howick Bathing House and Rumbling Kern beach
St Abbs Head with its rugged coastline and attractive harbour.
Tantallon Castle, Seacliff beach and Bass Rock.
There will be other smaller stops in between but the aim is to spend proper time in each location to perfect your images rather than dashing between sites too quickly.
The photography side of the workshop will be accompanied by some time with the computer looking at post processing using Lightroom and Photoshop. We will cover workflow and how to get the best from your images as well as looking at some more advanced techniques including panoramas, bracketing and focus stacking. I am keen to promote a relaxed and informal atmosphere on my workshops and there will be plenty of time for group discussion and image review.
The format of each day will vary depending on the weather and locations but we aim to take sunrise (6.40am) and sunset (6pm). Dinner in the evening will be on location in a pub, either locally to Bamburgh or close to our sunset location.

We will meet at the accommodation in the afternoon of Sunday 7th March and the workshop will finish after breakfast on Friday 12th March.
Suitability
This workshop is suitable for all no matter what level you are at photographically or what camera you use. The aim is to get to know a beautiful location with a group of like minded individuals. The workshop is limited to a maximum of 4 participants with two tutors allowing plenty of individual attention for all. We will cover a range of photographic techniques and will be taking in some diverse locations giving a stimulating few days whatever your ability.
Fitness
There is some walking required at some of the locations but no more than about 30 mins for any situation. Some of the terrain is rocky and undulating and includes a few inclines.
What to bring
You will need your camera, a selection of lenses preferably a wide angle and a telephoto, a tripod, memory cards and space batteries. If you have filters please bring them. If you don’t you are welcome to borrow some for the session. It will also be advantageous to bring a lap top if you have one. This will allow you to take advantage of some post processing tuition.
You will also need some good outdoor clothing, a waterproof coat, waterproof over trousers and some good walking boots.

This coastline is one I have visited many times. It is somewhere I feel an affinity for and one that I feel provides a huge variety of photographic opportunities.
This workshop is based in a large shared house which I feel is an ideal way to explore the area. Breakfast can be as early or as late as we need it to be and we have more flexibility than we would have in a hotel. The reception areas provide comfortable environments for relaxed evenings of image sharing and post processing as well as complete relaxation and conversation. .
This workshop will be a small group of 4 and the whole session will be run on a relaxed basis with the emphasis on fun and great photography. At the heart of all my workshops is the joy that being out in the natural world brings.
